Photos and videos are the way forward on Instagram\u2014especially if you keep the content broad enough.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examples:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Selling food? Focus on the taste and visuals<\/li>\n<li>Selling clothes? Fashion photos or videos, not just product shots<\/li>\n<li>Selling alcohol? Showcase celebrities or cocktails made with your products<\/li>\n<li>Selling hair products? Highlight hairstyles, tips and tricks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Good ideas for sharing on Instagram:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Product releases before launch<\/li>\n<li>Highlight fans doing something special<\/li>\n<li>Showcase employees to add personality<\/li>\n<li>Highlight other businesses that sell your products (B2B) as proof of sales<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As with all social media, consistency is key. You need to stay focused and keep your profile updated regularly. It&#8217;s easy to get frustrated when results don\u2019t come right away. Let\u2019s face it\u2014you won\u2019t gain 500,000 followers in 10 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Make sure to optimize and connect all your social media channels so they support each other. By linking Instagram with Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr, you can cover more ground at once. Alternatively, you can use <a href=\"https:\/\/buffer.com\/\">Bufferapp<\/a> for other platforms outside Instagram.<\/p>\n<p>Remember that what you post across different platforms needs to be optimized to work on each one. Otherwise, users won\u2019t be satisfied.<\/p>\n<p>For example, many users on Instagram are not on Facebook\u2014and vice versa. This automatically positions their brand in the same league. Of course, the quality has to match, but sometimes small branding hacks like these go a long way.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Use_the_right_hashtags\"><\/span>3. <strong>Use the right hashtags<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>You\u2019ve probably seen people using way too many random hashtags. Honestly, I don\u2019t recommend doing that. Be specific and detailed. You should only hashtag things that relate directly to what you sell.<\/p>\n<p>The more precise you are, the better you\u2019ll reach your target audience. Unfortunately, many people think it\u2019s all about having the most followers. That\u2019s far from the truth. It\u2019s about having ambassadors.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tagsforlikes.com\/\">To find the right hashtags,<\/a> look at what your competitors are doing across social media and see if you can identify tags that fit your brand.<\/p>\n<p>Try to maintain consistency across your posts\u2014including your hashtags. A good idea is to use your company\u2019s own hashtag. That way, your audience knows where to find more of your content.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Appreciate_your_audience\"><\/span>4. <strong>Appreciate your audience<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Your audience is everything\u2014and by audience, I mean your true ambassadors. This may become unmanageable later, but in the beginning, it\u2019s a great way to show appreciation and encourage people\u2014and others\u2014to keep sharing images of your brand.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"5_Track_everything_you_do\"><\/span>5. <strong>Track everything you do<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>One of the best parts of operating online is that you can track everything. Otherwise, it\u2019s impossible to know when you\u2019re doing something right\u2014or wrong.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.socialmediatoday.com\/social-networks\/peteschauer\/2015-07-11\/5-best-free-instagram-analytics-tools\">There are many tools<\/a> to help you analyze your Instagram data. But the most important thing is to personally observe what works. It\u2019s not always about having the fanciest tool. Often, it\u2019s about being alert and having a feel for what performs best and at what time of day.<\/p>\n<p>I often use <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cyfe.com\/\">Cyfe<\/a> to analyze data. It\u2019s essentially a way to simplify data tracking. You can decide what data to display on your dashboard and from which platform.<\/p>\n<p>For example, you can build a social board that displays all your social media data, including Instagram. It also creates easy KPIs that you\u2014and your team\u2014can work from.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-large wp-image-1751 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/staging1787817111.mickyweis.comwp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/image1-1030x635-1.jpg\" alt=\"image1\" width=\"980\" height=\"604\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Bonus_tip_Should_you_buy_fake_Instagram_followers\"><\/span>Bonus tip: <strong>Should you buy fake Instagram followers?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>There are tons of services where you can buy fake Instagram followers.<\/p>\n<p>A quick Google search or browse through Fiverr reveals thousands of options.<\/p>\n<p><strong>My advice: Don\u2019t do it.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The problem with fake followers is that they don\u2019t engage with your content. That results in fewer \u201cpoints\u201d in Instagram\u2019s algorithm. Instagram tracks what percentage of your followers engage with your photos and videos.<\/p>\n<p>If you have 20,000 fans but only 20 likes per post, Instagram\u2019s algorithm will quickly figure out you don\u2019t have real followers. That hurts your visibility.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s better to have fewer followers who actually care about what you\u2019re doing than to have millions who don\u2019t know you or aren\u2019t even real people.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Conclusion\"><\/span>Conclusion<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Instagram is a fantastic branding tool\u2014it\u2019s not as precise as Facebook, and you can\u2019t use links in the same way. But you can use Instagram to stay top of mind with your audience, and you can break into new markets through contests and co-branding.<\/p>\n<p>Be sure to follow some of the biggest brands and observe what they do\u2014you\u2019ll likely get a lot of good ideas.
